2006 YOUNG GUN TEEN DIVISION RULES
It is the desire of Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway in creating this
unique division to let teenagers see what their interest and skills are in a
form of stock car racing at a very economical cost.
We are hoping it will be a division that parents and their kids will enjoy doing
together, and who knows, maybe producing the future participants of the sport,
not only drivers, but crews as well.
Due to the youth and inexperience of this division, there will be some mandatory
requirements to assist the competitors.
1. Initially anyone interested in building a car must contact Ben Miley at
412-279-7223.
2. Prior to competing, any necessary paperwork must be completed.
3. Sign in at Pit Steward Stand for each event.
4. First time competitors must meet with Ben Miley prior to racing to go over
track procedures.
5. Attend a mandatory driver’s meeting prior to the racing program starting each
evening.
PPMS is very fortunate to have Lynn Geisler, Steve Baker, and Ben Miley (more to
be announced, as needed) who are willing to act as mentors to give the
competitors advice and direction, and in some instances, instruction on your
development at PPMS in all aspects of racing.
Upon your initial meeting with Ben Miley, he will explain how these drivers will
be available to you.
Finally, the staff and management as well as the drivers involved in the
program, look forward to working with you.

2006 YOUNG GUN TEEN RULES
This is a novice class running for a trophy only. No cash prizes will be
awarded!!
A. The driver will be admitted to the pits for half price of pit admission.
B. This is a low cost entry level division that is designed to enable teenagers to compete. Division is for stock automobiles only. Former race cars are not permitted. Rules are established to keep the cost of the cars down and affordable while making the vehicles as safe as possible.
C. This is an amateur division, former racers that have won a feature are not permitted to
compete.
D. All drivers must be at least 13, and no older than 19. All those Drivers under the age of 18 must have a minor release form filled out before you compete.
Minor release forms can be obtained at the pit sign in booth and must be signed by a parent/
guardian as well as the minor participant.
E. These rules are a framework for this division, therefore, they are basic. New rules may be
added as the need arises.
1. All cars must be 4-cylinder, non-turbo charged, 2 valves per cylinder, maximum 2.5 liter, American stock passenger cars 1993 or older. Approved models listed below. No pick up trucks or convertibles permitted. Cars must have full solid steel roof. Bodies must remain totally stock as built by manufacturer. No spoilers, wings, deflectors, or add on to body of any kind. Only 13 or 14 inch tires 70 or 75 series on maximum 6-inch wide steel wheels only. All tires and wheels must be the same size and offset. Tires must be steel belted radial with a DOT number and have a minimum of 2/32nds tread at any point.

2. All glass and trim of any kind must be removed on outside of body. This is to include headlights, tail lights, marker lights, grilles, mirrors, door handles. Front and rear bumper must remain stock, in stock location and in no way reinforced or bracing of any kind added. Bumper shocks must remain functional.
3. All doors must be welded shut with a minimum of two 1” x 1/8” x 6” steel straps, welded door to body to secure. Each door must also have one, 1” x 1/8” x 12” steel strap welded from the top of window frame to the roof on each door.
A four point roll cage, with gussets and DOM or electric weld tubing with minimum of 1.75 inch diameter and .095 wall thickness with three left side and two right side door bars. Four posts must be securely welded to floor board and square tubing. Square tubing should run parallel to rocker panels and securely welded to floor panel. Floor should be reinforced with steel plates where posts are attached. A racing seat of aluminum or fiberglass, and a 5-point racing harness system must be securely mounted to the roll cage and/or seat bracket.
Note: Kurt Halbedl at Imperial Heights Garage (412-331-3500) can install roll cages and seat if teams are in need of this service.
4. All windows must be removed. Windshield may remain or be replaced by a full window screen. In either case, a minimum 1” wide by 1/8” thick strap must be bolted from roof at top of center of windshield to the dash or cowl following the contour of the glass. A racing window net must be installed at the driver’s window.
5. Interior of cars must be gutted. All carpeting, headliners, seats, panels, etc. must be removed. Dash may be removed, but accessories, plastic and padding must be removed. Steering column must remain stock. No mirrors allowed anywhere.
No metal may be removed or cut from the car anywhere. No weight or ballast may be added to the car period. The driver’s side door may be gutted to allow the door bars to fit.
The hood and trunk latch system may be removed and replaced with racing hood pins, a minimum of 3 across. The rear of hood and trunk lid hinge system must remain stock. The hook and trunk insulation must be removed. Nothing else may be removed or added. The hook and trunk lid must open for inspection.
6. Radiators, gas tanks, batteries must remain stock and in stock location. Gas tank straps must be in good shape or replaced by new ones. A skid plate of 1/8” metal must be put under the gas tank. Batteries must be securely fastened by a high quality hold down, no bungee cords accepted. Radiators must have a catch can.
Gas filler necks must be in stock location. No anti-freeze is allowed in the system. It must be drained and replaced with pure water.
7. Engines must be stock as manufactured and may in no way be altered to improve performance beyond its original capabilities.
Air cleaners must remain stock and in stock location. Emission devices may be removed. Exhaust system must remain stock except the catalytic converter must be removed. Mufflers must be functional and meet the decibel requirements of the speedway. The exhaust must exit the car behind the driver’s compartment and be securely hung. If a car loses its exhaust during a race, that car will be disqualified.
8. Transmissions must be automatics, no standard transmissions and must remain stock with all stock components. Cars must be able to back up. Cars must have a working starter and start on their own.
9. Brake systems must be stock for the car as manufactured and in good working condition.
10. All suspension and steering parts must remain stock and in stock location. No beefing up or replacing any steering or suspension part with heavy duty.
11. Driver must wear a stock car approved racing helmet of a minimum Snell 95, and a driver’s racing fire suit and gloves. Must have a minimum 5 lbs. fire extinguisher mounted securely within reach of the driver and be fully charged.
12. All cars must have a number painted on each side of car and on the roof a minimum of 20” high. The roof number is to read from the right side of the car. Numbers must be contrasting to car color and highly visible. All cars must display on the windshield in minimum 4-inch highly visible letters, the driver’s name and age. In the event screen is being used, the letters must be attached to a piece of aluminum securely attached to the car at the top of the windshield opening.
13. A feature winner will start last his next appearance at the race track after a feature win.
14. Drivers are responsible for all persons who attend with them. All persons will be expected to adhere to all the Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway Rules of Conduct and Race Procedures both on and off the track.
15. All decisions made by Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway or its officials are final and non-litigable.

The race director shall be empowered to permit minor deviation from any of the specifications herein or imposing any further restrictions that in his opinion do not alter the minimum acceptance requirements. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OR SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials. Their decision is final.
