NO "EXPERIMENT" FOR STARS AT "PITTSBURGHER 100"!!

(Apple Creek, OH 8-10-99)

After experimenting with different engine options and a mandatory tire for the "6th Annual Penn National 100" at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway July 17, a decision was reached between STARS National DirtCar Racing League officials and P.P.M.S officials that the upcoming "10th Annual Pittsburgher 100" scheduled for September 17-19 will be contested under STARS National DirtCar Racing League rules and regulations.  Team's competing in the "Pittsburgher 100" will have to utilize an 8" spoiler regardless of what engine option they choose and there will be no specific tire mandated for the race.

STARS National DirtCar Racing League  President Rick Gross hasn't made a clear cut decision yet on the recent experiment that saw team's utilizing the P.P.M.S. "Spec. Engine" or "Open-Restrictor Plate Engine" options with a 12" spoiler racing against the "STARS Open Engine" cars with an 8" spoiler and all cars on a mandated tire.  " The experiment we tried at P.P.M.S. in July couldn't have worked out any better in the final outcome with a spec. engine powered car winning ahead of a STARS open engine powered car and an open-restrictor plate engine powered car", said Gross.  "It worked out great that all three engine options finished first through third but I don't feel it's fair to our racer's who have been chasing STARS points all year to have different rules in place for the "Pittsburgher 100".  Mainly because that race could have a major impact on the final points rundown.  After the "Pittsburgher 100" we only have two more races left on the schedule and we have to be fair to the teams who have supported us throughout the season.  I'm not saying we won't do the experiment again sometime down the road but for the "Pittsburgher 100" in September the rules we have gone by all year long, outside of the experiment at P.P.M.S., will be in effect".

The "10th Annual Pittsburgher 100" with a purse in excess of $73,000 will award the winner $21,000.  Practice will be held Friday, September 17 with time trials and the BORLA EXHAUST heat race's set for Saturday, September 18.  The ISKY RACING CAMS dash and PRO SHOCKS "B" Mains will precede the "10th Annual Pittsburgher 100" Sunday, September 19.  Race teams are reminded that pre-entry forms are available by phoning (724) 853-7223.  For ticket and lodging information phone (724) 853-7223 or visit the P.P.M.S. website at www.ppms.com.
