FLOODING PUTS END TO FINAL REGULAR SEASON SHOW. WORLD OF OUTLAWS
"PITTSBURGHER" UP NEXT FOR PPMS
IMPERIAL, PA (Sept. 18) - Massive flooding throughout several counties and areas surrounding the racetrack from the remnants of Hurricane Ivan Friday forced Miley Motorsports to cancel the Saturday racing program at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. The cancellation brought the curtain down on the regular racing season leaving the season finale, the 16th Annual Pittsburgher weekend, as the only remaining event on the 2004 PPMS racing calendar.
Five first time champions in their respective divisions have been determined following a review of the point standings after our September 11 racing program, which ended up being the final regular event of the season. Our 2004 Track Champions are Dave Wade from Clinton in the Late Models, Scott Township's Rich Apolito in the Advance Auto Parts Limited Late Models, Shawn Domhoff of Harmony in the E-modifieds, and Larry Marks from West Mifflin will wear the ring in the Isiminger's Pennzoil Pure Stocks. Stowe Township's Ian Tomei is the champion in the Amateur Stocks.
All attention now is focused on the arrival of the World of Outlaws Late Model "Dirty Dozen" as they invade Dirt's Monster Half Mile for the 16th Annual Pittsburgher on Friday, September 24 and Saturday, September 25. For the first time, the Pittsburgher will be comprised of two separate shows, both under the lights.
The Friday night racing program will get underway at 6:30pm with time trials for the World of Outlaws Late Models. Racing for the Late Models and Pure Stocks will commence immediately following qualifying, and it will all lead up to a 40-lap World of Outlaws feature event that will pay the winner $5000.
The high-powered late models will return Saturday for The Pittsburgher when they go at it for 60 fast and furious laps, and their name on the $12,000 winner's check. Time trials will get the Saturday night program underway at 5:30pm with racing to follow. The Amateur Stocks will be included in the racing program.
Practice for the Late Models, Pure Stocks and Amateur Stocks is scheduled for Thursday, September 23 from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. Admission in the grandstands for anyone wanting to watch the practice session is free. $15 is the charge for admission to the pits.
Pit gates open on Friday at 2:00pm, general admission gates open at 5:00pm. Adult admission is $25, ages 9-14 are $15, and children under 9 are free. The pit admission is $35.
On Saturday the pit gates open at 11:00am, grandstand gates open at 1:00pm. Adult admission on Saturday is $35, ages 9-14 are $15, children under 9 are free, and the pit admission is $40.
