Picking up a career first win in the “Topless Tuesday” Advance Auto Parts Limited Late Model feature was third generation driver, Tommy Schirnhofer, Jr. from Dormont. Midway’s Daryl Charlier notched his first E-Modified victory while Craig Kamicker of Hopewell made it two straight in the Isiminger’s Pennzoil Pure Stocks, and Bill Tennant from Colliers WV picked up his career first feature win in the night cap Amateur Stocks. From the front row, Barbara, in his first visit of 2005, and Lynn Geisler, set the pace for the “topless” event. When the green dropped, Barbara got the jump, and the chase was on. Geisler, Jim Zarin, Lou Bradich and Steve Baker tried reeling in Barbara, but it took a caution on lap five to let the field catch up. Barbara reassumed the point on the restart, but his lead evaporated two laps later when the red was displayed for a grinding backstretch crash involving last week’s feature winner, Neal Isiminger, Jared Miley and Neil Brown. No one was hurt, and after the track was cleared, racing resumed with Barbara back in command. As the race wore on, Geisler made the most of the lapped traffic, and got alongside Barbara on lap 29, but the yellow came out just as it appeared that Geisler might get by. Barbara put it in overdrive for the restart, and took his ninth career Late Model PPMS checker with room to spare. Geisler was unchallenged for second. Baker won the battle for third over John Flinner. Fifth was up for grabs with Bradich claiming the position over Jim Zarin and Scott Gunn who settled for sixth and seventh. Ben Miley crossed the stripe in eighth with Michael Davis ninth and Tony Musolino completed the top ten. Thirty Topless Late Models started the event. Heat race winners were Baker, Doug Dodd and Zarin with Danny Rich claiming Monarch Oil Hard Charger honors. Nineteen-year-old Tommy Schirnhofer captured his career first Limited Late Model feature by leading the 20-lap race from green to checker. Third starting Schirnhofer had the lead by the end of the first lap, and he never wavered on his way to picking up the victory over Jesse Burroughs, Bobby Castelveter, Jim Stephans and Brandon Burgoon. Six through ten were Nick Duratz, Kirk Young, Ray Brown, Larry Marks and John Hobbs. The two heat races were taken by Ray Brown and Jim Stephans, who was also the hard charger of the event. Daryl Charlier had winning on his mind as he blasted through the field from tenth to second by the time the first lap of the E-modified feature was completed. Charlier then roared by Cody Barrack to take the point and used the high side of the monster half mile to easily roll on to his first win of the season. Dennis Niederriter drove to a second place finish with Kari Gasser third, Joel Johns fourth and Tom Martineck rounded out the top five. The next round of five was made up of Mike Basich, Mitch Basich, Rick Meglaye, Wayne Tessean and J.E. Stalder. Tessean and Mike Basich won the heats, and Daryl Charlier was the Monarch Oil Hard Charger. Craig Kamicker passed Jeff Broniszewski at the flag stand on the second lap and went on to claim his second straight Pure Stock win of the 2005 season. Broniszewski was a distant second with Darryl Robison and A.J. Poljak close for third and fourth. Bob Betz crossed the stripe in fifth in a wild finish, and Shawn Bryan was credited with sixth. Ron O’Patchen finished seventh, Jake Simmons eighth, Nick Kocuba ninth and Bill Robertson completed the top ten. Poljak and Robison were the heat race winners, and Jake Simmons took Hard Charger honors. Bill Tennant took the lead on the fifth circuit of the Amateur Stock feature and held off first Davy Lee then withstood late race pressure from Gary Koteles to score his career first win in the division. Koteles settled for runner-up with Wes Wheeler third, Davy Lee fourth and Iam Tomei fifth. Six through ten were Monarch Oil Hard Charger Eric Goldberg, John Chipps, Adam Chytil, Josh Coltura and Mitch Wattecet. John Chipps and Gary Koteles won the heats. Racing resumes Saturday, June 25 with a regular five-division program of Late Models, Limited Late Models, E-Modifieds, Pure Stocks and Amateur Stocks plus a demolition derby will take place on the front straight immediately following the racing. The E-Modifieds will be in the spotlight on July 2nd with an extra distance special plus a regular show for the other four divisions, and it’s Driver Autograph Night for the fans.
