PITTSBURGH'S
PENNSYLVANIA MOTOR SPEEDWAY
IMMEDIATE RELEASE "LUCKY LOU" BRADICH EARNS $4000 PAYDAY IN "NAPA PENN NATIONAL 50" AT PPMS; BURGOON CLAIMS CAREER FIRST IN LIMITED LATES PITTSBURGH, PA - " Lucky Lou" Bradich took the $4000 payday home to Chester WV after scoring the exciting win in the Napa Penn National 50 Late Model event Saturday at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. Brandon Burgoon collected a career first in the Advance Auto Parts Limited Late Models, while A.J. Poljak scored his first of the season in the Isiminger's Pennzoil Pure Stocks. Repeat winners Saturday night were Dennis Niederriter (E-Modifieds) and Robby Torrens (Amateur Stocks). Proclaiming himself the luckiest guy around, likeable Lou Bradich from Chester WV put the hammer down, and clawed his way to the checkered flag to earn the biggest racing payday in his late model career at PPMS that now totals 23 wins. Steve Baker led the first lap, but after that, it was the Bradich and Lynn Geisler show up front while numerous position changes were taking place throughout the 30 car field. Bradich clearly had the car to beat, but a persistent Geisler never lost sight of the potent Auction Barn 09 as the duo maneuvered through the traffic at a wicked pace. Several times during the event as they worked through the back of the field, a caution would give Bradich a short-lived breather from the relentless Geisler. Bradich and Geisler further thrilled the already excited crowd with five to go, when they made more daring moves in the traffic, but Bradich continued to hold the lead. Geisler made a last ditch effort on the final lap, but "Lucky Lou", who nearly won the race the previous year, was not to be denied his victory this time. In victory lane Bradich stated that he was running out of fuel towards the end, and the loss of fuel pressure was the very reason he lost the Penn National one year ago. Runner-up Geisler warmly congratulated Bradich on his victory following the hard fought battle. Steve Baker ran third throughout, with John Flinner, from twelfth, taking fourth, and eighteenth starting Scott Gunn had a great drive to claim the fifth position at the finish. Jared Miley's steady run netted him sixth over visiting Chad Ruhlman. Mark Banal, who was the hard charger of the event, came from twenty-third to earn the eighth spot with Mike Johnson ninth, and Dave Wade, who rebounded from a mid race pit stop for a flat, drove back through traffic to round out the top ten. Thirty-two cars signed in with Geisler, Mike Cecere (subbing for Ben Miley), and Bradich chalking up the qualifying heat race wins. Twenty-year old rookie Brandon Burgoon has been knocking on the door, but there was no doubt about it Saturday when he drove off from his competitors to score his career first Limited Late Model Feature event on the monster half mile. The local McDonald driver took full advantage of his front row start, but at the checker, he had won by nearly a straightaway over runner-up Bobby Castelveter, who was followed closely by Tommy Schirnhofer, Jesse Burroughs and Nick Duratz. Six through ten were Jim Stephans, Ray Brown, John Cain, John Hobbs and Tom Duratz. Heats went to Burroughs and N. Duratz with Jim Stephans collecting the hard charger honors. The Pure Stocks were up next, and the exciting race provided great side by side racing throughout the event. Nick Kocuba held off the pressure of A.J. Poljak, Craig Kamicker and Jeff Broniszewski for the first half of the event, but Poljak finally made his winning pass on the eighth circuit. Poljak then was pursued by the same group with Jake Simmons joining in the chase. As the battle intensified behind him, Poljak was able to get away, and he went on to take the checker with room to spare to earn the Baldwin driver his first visit to the winner's circle this year.. Kocuba hung on to claim second with Broniszewski taking third over Kamicker and Simmons. Bob Schwartzmiller turned up the wick to collect sixth over Ron O'Patchen, Tim Folmer, Joe Anthony, and Mike Chruszcz. Schwartzmiller and Bill Robertson won the heat races, and Chruszcz was the Monarch Oil Hard Charger of the event. Dennis Niederriter
from McDonald waited a long time to get his career first E-modified win,
but two weeks later found himself back in victory lane for the second
time this year. Niederriter took command at the drop of the green and
fought off the early challenges of Mike Basich and Kari Gasser. As the
race wore on, Neiderriter poured it on to come to the checker by half a
straightaway over Basich who hung on for second. Tom Martineck came on
strong at the end to overtake Gasser for third. Kevin Miller drove an
outstanding race to finish fifth. Wayne Tessean was sixth with Kurt
Halbedl notching a seventh in his first outing of 2005. Eighth was
Mitch Basich, Joel Johns finished ninth and Chris Basich took home a top
ten in his first appearance at PPMS. Chuck Kennedy and Mike Basich won
the heats with hard charger honors going to Wayne Tessean. The next two weeks, Saturday, July 16 and July 23 are regular action events for the Late Models, Limited Late Models, E-Mods, Pure Stocks and Amateur Stocks. Gates open at five with racing at 7:00pm sharp. Break out the sunscreen and plan on attending our second special "Topless Tuesday" event on Tuesday, July 26. Thirty-four super late models will take off their tops for 35 laps on the high banks of Dirt's Monster Half Mile with the winner receiving $2000 for his efforts. The Limited Late Models will be running without their roofs as well, and the E-Mods, Pure Stocks and Amateur Stocks will also be in competition. The month of July's exciting racing action at PPMS will be capped off on July 30 with an action event plus a crash-em, smash-em demolition derby on the front straightaway.
