Brandon Burgoon, Daryl Charlier, Chris Basich, Stacie White, Bill Tennant, and Dusty Curry win at Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH, PA (May 5) - Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway ran its second show of 2007, as fans, drivers and officials remembered Miley Motorsports President James “Red” Miley who lost his battle with cancer earlier in the week.
 

It was a wild night at the track, that saw in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Late Models second year driver Brandon Burgoon pick up his career first late model win. The 21-year-old Burgoon from McDonald PA, the 2004 W.PA Rookie Of the Year, and student at California University of PA, started on the pole and led the entire event. But it wasn’t an easy win. Burgoon and D.J. Miller brought the field down for the start. Burgoon took the lead followed by Miller, Lynn Geisler and Dennis Niederriter. Meanwhile Mike Davis and Steve Baker, who both would factor in the finish, were moving up thru the field. Geisler moved into second on lap 8, while Davis was fourth and Baker moved into fifth as Burgoon who opened up a bit of a lead moved into traffic. A yellow on lap 10 would tighten the field up. Burgoon kept the lead on the restart, while Geisler was in pursuit. Davis got by Geisler on lap 14 for second, while Baker moved into fourth on lap 12. A yellow on lap 15 set the field up for the biggest crash of the night. On the restart, Burgoon took the lead again, while Geisler made a move on outside of Davis heading into the back straight, and the pair tangled sending Geisler into the wall. Baker dove low and missed the wreck, but a good bit of the field behind got caught up in the wreck. While Geisler was thru for the night, most of the others were able to continue, with some body damage. Davis never stopped, so he still held the second spot on the restart. When they restarted, Davis grabbed the lead, but another quick caution moved him back to second. Burgoon grabbed the point again, as Baker then battled with Davis getting by him on lap 17. As the race wound down Baker reeled in Burgoon and coming for the white flag, Baker made an outside move on Burgoon, but jumped the cushion and Davis got by him as he recovered. At the finish it was Burgoon, Davis, Baker, Miller, Niederriter, Dave Wade, Tom Beck, Lou Bradich, and Jared Miley rounded out the top ten finishers. The heats saw Mark Banal, Scott Gunn and Steve Baker take wins.

In the Brougher’s Machine Shop Crate Late Models, Daryl Charlier took his career first win in the class. Charlier, 23 from Midway PA, a veteran in the E-Mods but a rookie in the Crates, and graduated from Point Park Collage earlier in the day took the lead on lap 14 and was never challenged the rest of the way. Joel Johns took the lead at the outset, but lost the top spot on lap 4 to Kyle Lukon. Lukon was looking like a winner pulling away from the field when a flat tire ended his quest and bringing out a yellow. On the restart Lukon hit the wall, and was thru for the night. Russ Kolesar took the lead at that point, and battled with Charlier for the next five laps, when Charlier took over. At the end it was Charlier, Kolesar, Wes Wheeler, Bruce Takach, Laura Lukon, Mark Moats Jr., last weeks winner Jason Rider, Steve Beatty, Josh Holtgraver, and Paul Stadelman, (who was subbing for his brother, Leo). The two heats had Russ Kolesar and Daryl Charlier pick up the wins.

In the Sunoco Race Fuels Pure Stocks, Stacie White Pittsburgh, PA picked up his first win since 2004. White started on the outside pole and took the lead and was not seriously challenged. Fourth starting Nick Kocuba took second, after battling Danny Rich most of the event (Rich was in the Joe Anthony #69). Tenth starting Jake Simmons, who was the hard charger finished fourth with opening night winner Adam Chytil in fifth. Aaron Jones was sixth with A.J. Poljak, Bob Schwartzmiller, Josh Langer (in the Bill Robertson #1B), and Mitch Wattalet trailing. Danny Rich took the heat for the Pure Stocks.

In the Miley Truck Rental E-Mods, Chris Basich of Adena, OH picked up an easy win. Basich took up the lead and the start and was never challenged the rest of the distance. J.E. Stalder ran second early but had had engine problems, putting Daryl Charlier in second, which he held the rest of the way. Chuck Kennedy was a strong third followed by Wayne Tessean, opening night winner Mike Basich, Tom Martineck, Kevin Miller, Clayton Kennedy, J.J. Bametzrieder, and Jim Glass (who was in the Kari Gasser #0K). The heats fell to Chuck Kennedy and Mike Basich.

In the Old Allegany Shoppe Amateur Stocks, Bill Tennant, Colliers, WV picked up his first win since 2005. A major crash on lap one wiped out almost half the starting field including opening night winner Davy Lee. On the restart Terry Kerr grabbed the lead, but seemed to have motor problems the following lap and Tennant grabbed the top spot, Tennant pulled away as the race went on and was never seriously challenged. Eric Goldberg recovered from being in the early wreck to finish second followed by Ray Prolenski (in the Mark Perry #17), hard charger Curt Bish, Brian Huchko, Jarrod Weiland, Kerr, Frank Piccolino, and Tony White. Eric Goldberg and Darren Ferguson grabbed the heat race wins.

In the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, Dusty Curry Dormont, PA made up for his opening night bad luck, and led the entire distance in the 8 lap main event. Michael Reft was second, with Devin Tomei in third followed by Pete Wearing, Todd Janus, Rich Mason, Tyler Fox, Tyler Atkinson, and Nick Johnson.
