Davis, Baker, Simmons, Robertson and Curry Each Win One, While Daryl Charlier & Lee Double Their Pleasure at PPMS

PITTSBURGH, PA (June 2) - It was a big night at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway which saw nine features run including 3 rained out from two weeks ago. The first feature on the track was the rained out Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic Late Models. The race restarted on lap 11 with Lynn Geisler at the lead. On the start, Mike Davis grabbed the point with Geisler in tow. Davis led until lap 18 when a yellow appeared for Keith Rodriguez and Jim Lepro who got together with Rodriguez ending up against the wall going into turn one. On the restart, Davis grabbed the lead again, with Jared Miley moving by Geisler for second and 12th starting Steve Baker moving into third. Baker passed Miley on the next lap and set sail for Davis. Davis was up to the challenge though and won by half of a straightaway.  Davis from Rayland, OH picked up the win, his first of the season. Baker took second with Dave Wade charging up from the tail. Early leader Geisler was fourth followed by Jared Miley, Brandon Burgoon, and hard charger Tommy Beck, Ben Miley, Pete Rech and Jim Lepro.

The Sunoco Race Fuel Pure Stock feature from two weeks ago was next on the card. Danny Rich grabbed the lead at the start and looked like a winner until lap 7 when he spun and was put to the tail. McKees Rocks PA’s Jake Simmons took over with Bob Schwartzmiller behind in second. Simmons led the remainder of the event to pick up the win. Hard charger Stacie White passed Bob Schwartzmiller in the late stages of the event to finish second, with Bill Robertson getting by Schwartzmiller on the last lap to finish third. Schwartzmiller ended up fourth followed by Nick Kocuba, Rich, Don Bauerle Jr., Aaron Jones, Mike Mohn, and Joe Anthony. Luck didn’t get any better for the veteran Rich, as he was leading his heat during the regular portion of the show, and lost a driveshaft.

Next it was the Old Allegheny Shoppe Amateur Stocks. Terry Kerr grabbed the lead at the start. Last starting Davy Lee from Independence, PA charged thru the field and moved into second on lap two. Lee battled with Kerr for the next few laps and took the lead on lap five and sprinted off for the win. Curt Bish took second followed by Bill Tennant, Eric Goldberg, Darren Ferguson, Mark Perry, Jarrod Weiland, Kerr and Brian Huchko.

That brought the Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic Late Models back on the track for the regular show. An invert 10 start put Dennis Neiderriter and D. J. Miller on the front row. D. J. Miller grabbed the lead at the outset with Dennis Neiderriter in second and in third. Neiderriter spun coming off turn four and caused several anxious moments for the field, with fourth running Brandon Burgoon also stopping to avoid and both had to go to the tail. Miller grabbed the lead again on the restart while Dave Wade moved into second. Miller and Wade put on a spirited battle swapping the lead several times near the races mid point. Wade finally got by on lap 14. Meanwhile, tenth starting Steve Baker moved thru the field and was up to third by lap 14. He got by Miller on lap 15, and set after Wade. Wade and Baker battled for the lead with Baker getting by for good on lap 19. From this point on it was all Baker as he pulled away for the win, his second of the young season. Wade ended up second followed by Jared Miley, Lynn Geisler, Brandon Burgoon (who recovered nicely from the lap two incident), Miller, Mike Davis, Lou Bradich, Al Atallah (who came back from the tail due to a lap 6 flat tire), and Tony Musolino. Pete Rech, Steve Baker and Al Atallah won the heats.

The Brougher’s Machine Shop Crate Late Models were next on the card. A straight up start saw heat winners Jason Rider and Daryl Charlier bring the field down for the start.  Daryl Charlier grabbed the lead and battled with fourth starting Leo Stadelman for the top spot until lap 12, when Stadelman ran over something and tagged the wall. Midway, PA’s Charlier was home free after that as he sped to his second win of the season. Jason Rider was a solid second with Kyle Lukon in third. Jeff Broniszewski had a great run to finish fourth followed by Ken Sheltenbrand in the Bryan Hank #28, hard charger and fast improving rookie Steve Beatty, Rocky Kugel, Bruce Takach, Scott Schempp, and Sarah Schrum.

The Miley Truck Rental E-Mods were next and Midway, PA Daryl Charlier pulled off a rare two-class double in picking up the win. Tom Martineck was the early leader giving way to Chris Basich on lap four. Basich led until lap six when Charlier made his move and took the lead. Charlier led the remainder of the event with Basich in pursuit. Wayne Tessean ended up third with Shawn Domhoff making his first start to end up fourth. Chuck Kennedy ended up fifth followed by J.J. Bametzrieder, Mike Basich, J.E. Stalder, Martineck, and Willy Briggs. Chuck Kennedy and Wayne Tessean took heat victories.

Bill Robertson, from Upper St. Clair, grabbed his first win of the season in the Sunoco Race Fuels Pure Stocks. Robertson grabbed the lead at the outset, and romped to an easy win. The real battle was for second as four cars went at it for the entire race, and it wasn’t decided until the group came across the line at the checker. Bob Schwartzmiller took second at the flag from Stacie White, while Adam Chytil beat out hard charger Jake Simmons for fourth. Nick Kocuba was sixth, followed by Mitch Wattelet, Dave Slade and Robert Betz. The heats saw Jake Simmons and Stacie White take the wins.

In the second Old Allegheny Shoppe Amateur Stocks feature, the classes’ top runner Davy Lee picked up his second win of the night. Butch Levandosky grabbed the lead at the start, while Lee moved into second on lap 3. Lee battled with Levandosky for the next seven laps, and passed Levandosky on lap 11 to take the win. Levandosky finished second with Curt Bish in third, followed by Terry Kerr, Eric Goldberg, Jason Herniak, Derek Stefanick, Jarrod Weiland and Ray Prolenski. Davey Lee also grabbed the heat to cap off his perfect night.

Dormont PA’s Dusty Curry grabbed the Imperial Heights Garage Young Gun main leading the entire distance. Rich Mason chased him all the way to finish second followed by Todd Janus, Tyler Fox, Mike Reft and Tyler Atkinson.
