Atallah, Kolesar, Charlier, Simmons, Lee, and Curry win at Pittsburgh.
PITTSBURGH, PA (July 14, 2007) - Bridgeville PA’s Al Atallah drove to his first win since April 2004 at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Late Models. Dennis Neiderriter grabbed the lead at the outset of the event, and looked strong. Neiderriter weathered several restarts and led until lap 17, when 9th starting Atallah made his move and got by on the outside. From that point on it was all Atallah as he sped to his 14th career PPMS late model career victory. Neiderriter ended up a strong second, with Steve Baker in third. Baker, who was involved in a heat race crash with Mike Davis (who did not start the main) did a fantastic job coming from 18th to finish third. Jared Miley took fourth while last weeks winner Dave Wade came thru for fifth. Davey Johnson (in Brad Malcuit’s machine) was sixth followed by Tommy Beck, Lou Bradich, Brandon Burgoon, and Lynn Geisler. The heats had Dave Wade and Al Atallah grab victories.
West Mifflin PA’s Russ Kolesar drove the Castelveter #27 to his first win since 1995 in the Brougher’s Machine Shop Crate Late Models. Laura Lukon grabbed the early lead and led the first two laps. A yellow tightened the field up and on the restart Kolesar, who started fourth, made his move and took the lead. Laura Lukon ran right behind, while Steve Beatty moved into third. Another restart on lap 8 moved point leader Kyle Lukon to second, and Laura Lukon to third. Steve Beatty dropped out at this point with suspension problems. Kyle challenged Kolesar for the next nine laps, when the red came out for a hard crash into the back straight inside fence by seventh running Bill Westlake. Westlake was uninjured but the show was delayed for 45 minutes while the track crew repaired the fence. On the restart Kyle Lukon made another bid for the lead and pulled even with Kolesar going into one and two. But Kolesar held him off going into three, and lead the remaining laps to pick up the win. Daryl Charlier drove a strong race to finish third, while Laura Lukon had a good run to finish fourth. Mark Moats was fifth, while Jim Kutas made his first start of the season to finish sixth. Jason Rider was seventh followed by Bryan Huffman, Tim Folmer, and Rocky Kugel. Jim Kutas and Leo Stadelman won the heats.
In the Miley Truck Rental E-Mods, Daryl Charlier, Midway PA took his second win of the season. Chuck Kennedy grabbed the early lead, as a tremendous battle went on behind him for second between returning Kari Gasser, Mike Basich, Chris Basich and Charlier. Kennedy led up to lap 5, when a yellow came out. On the restart Charlier grabbed the lead using his high line and never looked back. Last weeks winner Kevin Miller charged to second followed by Mike Basich, Kari Gasser, J.E. Stalder (who recovered from two spins), J.J. Bametzrieder, Chris Basich, Kennedy, Vince Laboon and Clayton Kennedy. The heats saw J.E. Stalder and Daryl Charlier take wins.
Jake Simmons, McKees Rocks PA grabbed his fourth Sunoco Race Fuels Pure Stock win of the season. Bob Schwartzmiller took the lead at the outset and for a while looked to be headed for the win, but the Damage Inc. team of Simmons and last week’s winner Joe Anthony had different ideas. The pair worked their way thru the field and started challenging Schwartzmiller on lap 10. Schwartzmiller led until lap 12, when Simmons made his move into first. Simmons led the last three laps with Anthony challenging all the way. Bill Robertson finished third, with Schwartzmiller ending up fourth, followed by Nick Kocuba, A.J. Poljak, Stacie White, Dave Slade, Mike Mohn, and Don Bauerle. The heats were captured by Bill Robertson and Jake Simmons.
Davy Lee Independence, PA grabbed his seventh win of the season in the Old Allegheny Shoppe Amateur Stocks. Lee grabbed the lead on lap 2 and never looked back. Curt Bish moved into second on lap 4 and chased Lee the distance, but was never able to mount a serious challenge. Terry Kerr was third followed by last week’s winner Eric Goldberg, Derek Stefanick, Jeff Schall, Mark Perry, Jason Herniak, Jarrod Weiland and Bill Tennant. The two heats fell to Davy Lee and Curt Bish.
In the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns feature, Dusty Curry Dormont, PA grabbed his 8th win of the season. Mike Reft challenged him, but could not get by. Tyler Fox was third, followed Todd Janus, Sean Graham and Devin Tomei.
