Barbara wins Garin Memorial, Lukon, Charlier, Rich, Lee and Curry also win at PPMS on August 11, 2007.

PITTSBURGH, PA (August 11, 2007) - South Park PA’s Keith Barbara ended a season of frustration by picking up his first win of 2007 in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Late Model’s at PPMS. It was the annual Emma and Nick Garin Memorial honoring the builders and former owners of the speedway. For Barbara it ended a bad streak of luck in a season marred by engine woes that saw the popular driver miss many nights at the tracks. Last week’s winner Steve Baker grabbed the lead at the start. A quick yellow came out just as lap one was getting complete, for Alex Ferree and Jim Lepro who got together on the back straight. Baker led until lap four when Jared Miley took over. Another caution came out on lap five for George Kowatic and Ben Miley. Jared Miley was back out front on the restart, with Al Atallah now in second and Keith Barbara in third. Atallah and Miley the put on a battle for the next several laps as the leaders caught traffic. The battle came to a head when the pair tangled coming down the front straight, sending Miley into the wall and bringing down the yellow. Miley was able to pit and changed a flat right front tire and rejoin the field. On the restart it was Atallah in front followed by Keith Barbara and Steve Baker. Atallah battled with Barbara as the pair started to get into traffic. Another yellow appeared on lap 20 for Mike Johnson. On that restart Barbara was able to get the jump on Atallah for the lead. Barbara pulled away with Atallah in second and Baker in third followed by Lou Bradich and Brandon Burgoon. On lap 38 the worst incident of the evening occurred when Brent Rhebergen broke a wheel and hit the turn two wall, almost colleting some of the front runners. On the restart, Barbara was able to maintain the lead and take the win. At the finish it was Barbara, Atallah, Baker, Bradich, Jared Miley who was able to charge from the tail, Keith Rodriguez in a solid run, John Mollick, Tom Beck, Brandon Burgoon, and Ben Miley. The heats for the thirty Late Models on hand went to Jared Miley, Keith Barbara and Lynn Geisler.

Kyle Lukon Burgettstown, PA grabbed his fourth Brougher’s Machine Shop Crate Late Model feature of the season. Jim Kutas led the first lap and Jason Rider grabbed the lead on lap two, and built up a huge margin. Rider was leading by the halfway point with Daniel Angelicchio in second Russ Kolesar in third Kyle Lukon in fourth and Jim Kutas was fifth. On lap 14 Rider slowed and pulled into the pits the victim of a broken drive train putting Daniel Angelicchio in the lead. His lead was short lived as a yellow came out the following lap and on the restart Kyle Lukon took the lead. From that point on it was all Lukon to pick up his fourth career win. Daryl Charlier finished second with Kolesar third, Angelicchio ended up fourth followed by Rocky Kugel, Laura Lukon, Steve Beatty, Bill Westlake, Mark Moats and John Holtgraver. Kyle Lukon and Russ Kolesar won the heats.

In the Miley Truck Rental E-Mods, Midway PA’s Daryl Charlier grabbed his third win of the season. Kari Gasser grabbed the lead at the start and was running well and looking as if she might grab her second career win. However a lap ten restart changed that. It put second running Mike Basich right on her tail and third running Daryl Charlier beside Basich. On the restart Gasser led lap 11, then Charlier used the high side to make the move and pass Gasser and move Basich back to third. Another restart on lap 14 saw Basich move by Gasser. At the checker it was Charlier, Mike Basich, Gasser, Chris Basich, Tom Martineck, Kevin Miller, J.J. Bametzrieder Jim Plance, Bruce Dreistadt, and Joe Betz. The heats fell to Tom Martineck and Mike Basich.

In the Sunoco Race Fuels Pure Stocks, Imperial PA’s Danny Rich picked up his second win of the season. Jake Simmons took the lead at the start with Danny Rich in second and Joe Anthony in third, as the Damage Inc. teammates ran one, two, and three. Rich moved in front on lap 9 taking the lead from teammate Jake Simmons. Simmons and Anthony tangled after that sending Anthony out of the race. Invader Pat Hanley moved into second and pushed Rich the remainder of the event. At the finish it was Rich, Hanley, Bill Robertson, Bob Schwartzmiller, Jake Simmons who came back thru the field, Nick Kocuba, Bobby Heim, Robert Betz, Mike Mohn and Don Bauerle. The two heats went to Bill Robertson and Jake Simmons.

Davy Lee, Independence PA, grabbed his ninth Old Allegheny Shoppe Amateur Stock feature. Lee battled with Tony White, who had led from the start. White who grabbed his first career win in the class a few weeks ago was looking for his second. Lee worked the inside of the track and White on the outside as he slowly made his way by in the late stages, taking the lead with two to go.  White ended up second followed by Bill Tennant, J.J. O’Patchen, Curt Bish, Jason Herniak, Derek Stefanick, Jarrod Weiland, John Hatlas, and Mike Trompak. Curt Bish and Davy Lee took the heat victories.

In the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns feature, Dusty Curry Dormont, PA grabbed his 11th win of the season. Curry grabbed the lead off Todd Janus on lap two and rolled to the win. Mike Reft was second followed by Rich Mason, Tyler Fox, Alec Broniszewski, Todd Janus, and Sean Graham.
