Kyle Lukon wins Jook George Memorial Fall Classic; Baker, Miller, Simmons, J.J. O’Patchen, and Curry also win at PPMS.

PITTSBURGH, PA (August 18, 2007) - Kyle Lukon, Burgettstown, PA grabbed his fifth win of the season in the Annual Jook George Memorial Fall Classic 30 for the Brougher’s Machine Shop Crate Late Models.  Jason Rider and Leo Stadelman brought the field down for the start. At the green Stadelman and third starting Kyle Lukon split Rider at the start, and Lukon led going into turn one, while Stadelman grabbed the lead going down the back straight. Stadelman led the first 8 laps with Lukon not far behind. On lap nine Lukon made his move and passed Stadelman in traffic. The races first caution also appeared on lap 9 for the spun car of Cory Behanna. Lukon reassumed the lead on the restart with Stadelman in second, and Daryl Charlier moving by Jason Rider for third. The races next yellow appeared for Behanna again as he hit the front straight wall on lap 15. Lukon took off again with Stadelman, Charlier, Rider, and Russ Kolesar running behind. Rider regained third on lap 18 when he passed Charlier. The next yellow appeared on lap 25 for 9th running Laura Lukon, when a right front suspension part broke on her car, and knocked her out of the running. The yellow appeared again the next lap when Craig Kamicker spun in the #Mach 5. On the restart Lukon was back out front while Rider moved past Stadelman for second. The next lap Stadelman went high in a turn and Kolesar, Dan Angelicchio, and Charlier moved by him. Kolesar moved by Rider with two to go while Charlier got by Angelicchio. At the finish it was current point leader Lukon by a comfortable margin over Kolesar, Rider, Charlier, Angelicchio, Pete Loria, hard charger Rocky Kugel (who started 21st), Steve Beatty, Josh Holtgraver, and Scott Schempp. Leo Stadelman was the fast qualifier with a fleet 19:653, and he also won the first heat, with Kyle Lukon and Jim Kutas winning the other heats. Jason Rider won the dash and Laura Lukon won the Hard Luck Award. Twenty-two cars were on hand. Kyle Lukon picked up $1,800 for the win.

The Fairmont WV “Rim Rider”, Steve Baker grabbed his fourth win of the season in the Hoosier Mid-Atlantic Late Model feature. Ben Miley and Dave Wade brought the field down at the start. Wade grabbed the lead with Miley in second and Keith Rodriguez in third. The first yellow appeared on lap 4 when Jim Lepro, Lynn Geisler, Reid Millard, and Tony Musolino got together in turn two. MO invader Millard was able to continue while Geisler and Lepro were out of the event. Musolino would return, but was two laps down. On the restart sixth starting Jared Miley moved into second while 12th starting Baker moved into third and Brandon Burgoon in fourth. The top four stayed that way until lap 12 when Pete Rech brought out the races second yellow. On the restart Baker made his move, splitting the two leaders and taking the top spot. From there on it was all Baker as he pulled away for the win. Miley moved by Wade on lap 22 for second, while 11th starting Lou Bradich got by Wade on the last lap to finish third. Wade was fourth followed by Keith Rodriguez, in his best run of the season, Brandon Burgoon, Mike Johnson, Dennis Neiderriter, Tom Beck and Ben Miley. It was Baker’s 30th career Late Model win. Jim Lepro and Brandon Burgoon won the heats. Eighteen cars were on hand.

In the Sunoco Race Fuels Pure Stocks, McKees Rocks PA’s Jake Simmons won his 6th win of the season. Simmons took the lead on lap four from Nick Kocuba and romped to the win. Fellow Damage Inc. driver, Joe Anthony, was second with 12th starting hard charger Bill Robertson in third. Stacie White was fourth followed by A.J. Poljak, Nick Kocuba, Bob Schwartzmiller, Dave Slade, Robert Betz, and Don Bauerle.  Joe Anthony and Stacie White grabbed the heat wins.

Kevin Miller, Toronto OH was the surprise winner in the Miley Truck Rental E-Mod feature. Tom Martineck grabbed the lead at the start. Martineck led the event while Kari Gasser and point leader Wayne Tessean battled for second. Gasser and Tessean caught Martineck and started challenging him for the lead. This came to a head on lap 12, when Tessean got into the back of Gasser and they both hit the wall going into turn one. Gasser was out of the event, while Tessean returned. Martineck was the leader on the restart with Chuck Kennedy in second and Miller now up to third. Miller overhauled Kennedy then went after Martineck. Miller took the lead on lap 14 and went on to the win. Martineck was second followed by Kennedy, J.J. Bametzrieder, Clayton Kennedy, Tessean, Stush Sadowski, Jim Plance, Ted Beaver and Gasser. Last week’s winner Daryl Charlier was involved in an early wreck with J.E. Stalder and both were knocked out of the event.  Tom Martineck and Chuck Kennedy took the heat wins.

In the Old Allegheny Shoppe Amateur Stocks we saw a new winner as J.J. O’Patchen Mt. Lebanon, PA take a career first win. O’Patchen, son of former PPMS Pure Stock top winner and many time track champion Ron O’Patchen, was driving the Eric Goldberg #714. O’Patchen took the lead at the start and held off Curt Bish for the distance. Tony White was third followed by Bill Tennant, Jarrod Weiland, Derek Stefanick, Terry Kerr, Jason Herniak, Josh Langer (subbing for point leader Davy Lee), and Brian Huchko. Bill Tennant won the heat.

In the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, Dusty Curry Dormont, PA won his 12th win of the season. Curry took the lead on lap three from Sean Graham and won over Mike Reft, Graham, Devin Tomei, Todd Janus, Tyler Fox and Rich Mason.

A mistake in last week’s story about the Crate Late Model feature had Russ Kolesar in second followed by Dan Angelicchio and Daryl Charlier. The correct finish should have read Charlier in second followed by Kolesar and Angelicchio. The summary was correct. Sorry for any inconvenience the mistake may have caused.
