Barbara and Reft win at Pittsburgh before rains hit on August 25, 2007.
PITTSBURGH, PA (August 25, 2007) - Keith Barbara, South Park, PA won his second feature of the season in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Late Models. Barbara and Lynn Geisler brought the field down for the green. Barbara quickly grabbed the top spot, and began to build a lead. Jared Miley quickly moved into second with Lynn Geisler in third and Lou Bradich in fourth. Last week’s winner Steve Baker who started 12th, and 11th starting Al Atallah made their way thru the field getting up to sixth and eighth by the half way point, but still a distance behind the leaders. The race rolled along non-stop on the fast surface, and by the halfway point the race was Barbara leading by a comfortable margin, with Miley in second, Geisler third, Dave Wade now in fourth, Baker up to fifth, Atallah sixth, Brandon Burgoon in seventh and Bradich back to eighth. By lap 16 Barbara started to get bogged down a bit in lapped traffic, allowing Miley and Geisler to close. By lap 18 Baker ran Wade down and moved into fourth, but was still a straightaway behind the top three, but closing. Atallah moved past Wade on lap 19, as Miley began to close on Barbara and Geisler moved in on Miley. The lapped car of Mike Johnson changed the race a bit, while Barbara and Miley got by him, Geisler hit him going down the back straight and turned him into the wall, bringing out the race’s only caution on lap 21. While the field was being lined up for the restart while Johnson’s car was being cleared off the track, the rains began to fall. The field was stopped on the front straight while waiting to see if the rain would stop, but the showers got heavier and the race was declared complete. It was unfortunate as the last four laps were looking to be exciting. Twenty cars were on hand with Danny Rich making his first start of the season in his familiar #67X, Nick Duratz moving up to the lates from the limiteds, in a new black #11, and WV invader Dusty Hamrick, making his first ever PPMS start in a black and white #55. Jared Miley and Dave Wade took the heat wins.
In the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, Mike Reft Whitehall, PA grabbed his second win of the season, and became one of the few to pass Dusty Curry this season. Curry grabbed the lead off Rich Mason on lap two, and was passed by Reft on lap four. Reft and Curry battled the rest of the distance. Sean Graham was third followed by Rich Mason, Todd Janus and Tyler Fox.
Kyle Lukon and Leo Stadelman won the Brougher’s Speed Shop Crate Late heats, while in the Miley Truck Rental E-Mod heats Tom Martineck and Daryl Charlier grabbed the heat wins. In the Sunoco Race Fuels Pure Stocks Bill Robertson took the heat, while Davy Lee took the Old Allegany Shoppe Amateur Stock heat. The four rained out features will be run over the next two weeks.
