Bradich, Rider, M. Basich, Chytil, Lee and Mason Take Opening Night Wins at Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH, PA (April 21) - The third time was the charm at Pittsburgh’s Pa Motor Speedway as the 2007 season finally got underway. Defending track champ, Chester WV’s Lou Bradich picked up where he left off by winning the opening night feature. Tony Musolino and Keith Rodriguez brought the field down for the start. Musolino took the lead with Rodriguez in tow. Musolino opened up a lead, when the yellow appeared on lap 6. On the restart Jared Miley and Rodriguez moved ahead of Musolino. Lou Bradich (who started 13, after a dismal 7th place run in his heat) moved up to third spot.  Miley led until lap 9 when Musolino’s run ended when he rode the turn one wall after being passed by a charging Scott Gunn. Gunn, who started 18th after cutting a tire down in his heat, moved into fourth at that point. On the restart Bradich resumed the lead, with Miley behind, while Gunn moved into third. Bradich withstood another yellow a lap later, but pulled away on the restart. Bradich cruised to his 32nd career PPMS Late Model win. Miley finished second followed by hard charger Gunn, Lynn Geisler, Mike Johnson, Michael Davis, Brandon Burgoon, Rodriguez, Dennis Neiderriter, and Ben Miley to complete the top 10. Michael Davis and Late Model rookie Pete Rech took the heats.

Last years W. PA Rookie of the year, Jason Rider, Clinton PA picked up his fifth career win in the Crate Late Models. Laura and Kyle Lukon brought the field down for the start. Kyle took the lead at the start with his sister Laura right behind. The pair ran this way for the next 11 laps. On lap 12, Leo Stadelman and Rider moved by Laura to move up to second and third. Rider got by Stadelman and set sail for Kyle. Kyle, who had a comfortable lead for most of the event, saw it shrink as Rider closed. But by lap 16 it looked as if Rider might run out of time, however a bobble by Kyle off turn 4 saw Rider sweep by and lead the rest of the distance. Kyle ended up a disappointing second. Stadelman held off a last lap charge from Laura to finish 3rd. Crate rookie Jeff Broniszewski finished fifth, followed by Russ Kolesar (in the Castleveter #27C), Wes Wheeler, Bill Westlake, Josh Holtgraver, and Brad Westover.  Wes Wheeler and Leo Stadelman took the heat wins.

In the E-Mods, Mike Basich, Adena, OH picked up his fourth career win. Tom Martineck led the first lap, but was replaced on lap 2 by Chris Basich. For the next 14 laps Mike and Chris Basich battled for the lead, swapping it back and forth several times. In fact the race became a five car affair. Chuck Kennedy, Wayne Tessean and J.E. Stalder joined the fray. Stalder spun while moving into second on lap 11. Kennedy dropped out at this time. At the finish it was Mike Basich, Chris Basich (by inches) over Wayne Tessean, J.E. Stalder, (who made no less than three charges from the tail), Jeff Bametzrieder, Vince Laboon, Martineck, Frank McGill, Denny Nakutus, and Willie Briggs.  The heats fell to J.E Stalder and Chuck Kennedy.

In the Pure Stocks, Adam Chytil, Carnegie, PA picked up his first career win.  Chytil took the lead on lap two and battled with Stacie White and Joe Anthony before pulling away for the win. The trio was followed, Bill Robertson, A.J. Poljak, Bob Schwartzmiller, Nick Kocuba, Aaron Jones, Jake Simmons, and Gary Koteles. Bill Robertson and A.J. Poljak grabbed the heat victories.

Davy Lee, Independence, PA picked up where he left off last season and took the opening night Amateur Stock win. Eric Goldberg was the early leader, but spun on lap 5, and Lee took over the top spot. Lee pulled away at that point and led the remaining laps for the win. Bill Tennant drove a solid race to finish in second, followed by Daren Ferguson, Butch Levandosky, Goldberg, Terry Kerr, Jarrod Weiland, Tony White, Brian Huchko, and Mark Perry. The heats had Daren Ferguson and Davy Lee take the wins.

The Young Guns saw last year’s track champ Rich Mason, Kennedy, Twp. PA pick up the win. Mason held off a stiff challenge from Pete Wearing to take the win. Todd Janas was third followed by Tyler Atkinson, Michael Reft, Tyler Fox, Devin Tomei, and Dusty Curry.
