IMPERIAL, PA...A more than half hour rain delay did not slow down the competition Saturday at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. Greensburg's Davey Johnson roared to his second straight Late Model win, as did Alex Ferree of Saxonburg in the Zoresco Limited Late Models. Wayne Tessean of Austintown, OH claimed his first M. Stahl Modified victory, and Ralph Hysong Jr. from Shippingport became the first two time winner in the Spectator Stocks.

The caution-filled Late Model 25-lapper saw pole sitter Mark Banal lead the first twelve laps, while twelfth starting Davey Johnson steadily worked his way into second. Johnson took the lead at the halfway point only to see Banal go back in front on lap 14. With ten laps remaining Johnson took the lead for good while Banal went high in turn one and brushed the wall, suffering a flat tire and bringing out the caution. Johnson built a comfortable margin after the restart on his way to the checkered flag. Chub Frank out dueled Doug Dodd for second, Lou Bradich was fourth and Dave Groves fifth. Ed Feree, John Johnson, Steve Baker, Jim Lepro and Banal completed the top ten. Bill Knepper, Bradich and Monarch Qil/Wolfs Head Hard Charger .  Johnson won the heat races. Willie White led the first 13-laps in search of his first Zoresco Limited Late Model feature victory before Alex Ferree made his winning pass in lapped traffic. Once in front, Ferree was never seriously challenged the rest of the distance. White, Pete Loria, Travis Geisler and Wayne Gaither rounded out the top five. Six through ten were: Dave Wade, Mark Moats, Kirk Young and John Pavlick. Chris Angelicchio and Duane Popham won the preliminaries. Ferree was also the Monarch Oil/Wolf's Head Hard Charger. Larry Kugel tried to repeat what Johnson and Ferree accomplished but came up one position short in the M. Stahl Modified feature. Wayne Tessean led the final nine circuits to claim the cherecked flag with the twelfth starting Kugel second. Early race leader Logan Dernoshek settled for third, with John Myrgo fourth and Stush Sadawski fifth. Jimmy Plance, D.J. Miller, Scott Gunn, Russ Matejka and Arlan Coy sixth throught tenth respectively.

Defending track champion Ralph Hysong Jr. used the inside groove to his advantage in bagging the Spectator Stock 15-lap feature. "Jumpin" Joe Vacca was second, Frankie Schneider, Bob Damron and Bob Heim (subbing for Doug Foster) completed the top five. Jimmy Plance, Rich Apolito, Fred Schneider, Frank Schneider Sr., and Stacie White completed the top ten.

This weekend is the first doubleheader of the season at PPMS. Regular racing is planned for the Late Models, Zoresco Limited Late Models, M. Stahl Modifieds and Spectator Stocks. Gates open at 5p with racing at 7p.
