PITTSBURGH'S PENNSYLVANIA MOTOR SPEEDWAY
5/15/99
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(724) 853-RACE/www.ppms.com
IMPERIAL, PA .Saturday was a night to double your pleasure at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. Mark Banal, St. Clairsville OH - Late Models, Len Dobrosielski, Kennedy Township - Limited Late Models, and Wayne Tessean, Austintown OH - M. Stahl E-Mods all won for the second time this season. Sheraden's Frank Schneider Jr. graced victory lane for the first time in '99. A bold move at the drop of the green flag propelled Banal from third to first in the Late Model 25 lap feature, but his wire to wire win was not easy. Davey Johnson and Lou Bradich both moved by Mike Cecere for second and third at the halfway point and set their sights on Banal. As the race entered the late stages, the front trio were about to go three wide while negotiating the lapped car of Bill Adler, who went spinning after contact from Banal. On the restart Banal was up to the challenge in collecting his 26th PPMS Late Model win. Johnson, Bradich, Cecere and B.A. Malcuit completed the top five. Monarch Oil Hard Charger John Flinner came from twelfth to sixth. Bill Knepper was seventh, Jim Zarin eighth, John Johnson ninth and Ricky Thomas tenth. Malcuit, Cecere and Flinner captured the heat races. Len Dobrisielski took the lead from Dwayne Popham on the third circuit of the 20 lap Limited Late Model feature and pulled away for a convincing win. Popham was second, Pete Loria third, Dave Wade fourth and Jim Petrelle fifth. Rounding out the top ten were: John Pavlick, Tom Schirnhofer, Bob Damron, Chuck Mowry and Willie White. Schirnhofer was the Monarch Oil Hard Charger. Heat race wins went to Schirnhofer and Wade. The hotly contested M. Stahl E-Mod 15 lap feature saw Kari Petrosky and DJ Miller set the pace before Wayne Tessean took command on lap ten. The defending track champion held the top spot for the victory over Miller, Petrosky, Larry Kugel and D.J. Troutman. Scott Stiffler, Jeff Haefke, Scott Gunn, Russ Matejka and Ralph Hysong Jr. completed the top ten. Tessean was also the Monarch Oil Hard Charger. Gunn and Bootie Petsko took the preliminary wins. The Schneider Truck Spectator Stock caution filled 15 lap feature saw Doug Foster set the early pace before Schneider made his winning pass. Foster would not go away and finished a close second. Danny Rich was third, Dave Greenawald fourth and Gary Smith (subbing for Frank Schneider Sr.) fifth. Al Atallah was sixth, Fred Schneider seventh, Neal Isiminiger eighth, Pat Weldon ninth and Charlie DiLoreto tenth. The heat races went to Monarch Oil Hard Charger Frank Schneider Jr., and Atallah. This Saturday, May 22nd is driver Frisbee toss night at PPMS with regular racing for the Late Models, Limited Late Models, M. Stahl E-Mods and Schneider Truck Spectator Stocks. Coming Saturday, May 29th is Twin 20's for the Late Models, "The Bob White Memorial" for the Spectator Stocks and regular racing for the Limited Late Models and E-Mods. Gates open at 5pm with racing at 7pm. For more information call (724) 853-RACE, or visit our Internet homepage at www.ppms.com.
