Bradich, Lukon, Tessean, Simmons, Bish, and Curry win at
PITTSBURGH, PA (June 16) - Burgettstown PA’s Kyle Lukon got the monkey off his back and captured his first career Brougher’s Machine Shop Crate Late Model Feature. Lukon the current point leader had four seconds and a third in the first six races this season, but was not to be denied tonight. Lukon started third and took the lead off Ken Scheltenbrand on lap four, and weathered several cautions to pick up the win. Scheltenbrand ended up second at the finish in a solid performance. Overshadowed somewhat by Lukon’s first win was the great performances by the next three finishers, Jason Rider, Steve Beatty, and Russ Kolesar. Rider, last weeks winner was spun out on lap four, charged from the tail and battled with Beatty in the closing stages to finish third. Beatty, who grabbed his first win in the class in an earlier heat, moved into the hunt by half way, and battled with Rider over the last seven laps like a veteran. Look for one of the division’s top rookies to end up in victory lane soon. Kolesar had a ride just like Rider, spinning on lap seven, and charging up to get fifth in the late stages of the event. Laura Lukon had a back and fourth night, but ended up a strong sixth, with Jeff Broniszewski in seventh, Leo Stadelman who suffered a flat on the last lap, after a brush with the wall, was eighth, with Mark Moats Jr., and Bill Westlake rounding out the top ten. Steve Beatty and Leo Stadelman grabbed the heats.
The Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Late Models, saw opening night winner Chester, WV’s Lou Bradich grabbed his second win of the season. Bradich, who has had only one top five finish since opening night, grabbed the lead off Jared Miley on lap 3, and held off a pesky Dennis Neiderriter and charging Steve Baker for the win. Neiderriter ended up second, his best career Late Model run, while 12th starting Baker had a wild charge thru the field to end up third. Keith Barbara, subbing for Lynn Geisler in the #1C also had a wild charge thru the field after starting last in the field after being involved in a heat race tangle to finish fourth. Geisler was at a wedding, so he was unable to be at the track on time. Jared Miley was fifth, with last week’s winner Dave Wade was sixth followed by Brandon Burgoon, Tommy Beck, George Kowatic, and invader Rodney Sweitzer. Lou Bradich and Dennis Neiderriter picked up the heat wins.
In the Miley Truck Rental E-Mods, Austintown OH’s Wayne Tessean grabbed his second win of the season. Chris Basich grabbed the lead at the start, with Jacob Hawkins, who was making his first start of the season and Tessean right behind. A caution on lap six when fifth running Daryl Charlier stopped in turn two. On the restart, Tessean and Hawkins split Basich in a daring move coming off turn two. The pair ran nose to tail for the next few laps, while last weeks winner 12th starting J.E. Stalder moved up to third. Hawkins moved beside Tessean and began a great side-by-side battle for the lead. Hawkins great run came to an end on lap12 when his motor let go. On the restart, Basich got around Stalder for second, and the pair challenged Tessean, but at the end Tessean was up to the task. At the finish it was Tessean, Chris Basich, Stalder, Kevin Miller, Tom Martineck, J.J. Bametzrieder, Jim Petrelle, Joe Betz, newcomer Shawn Scheerbaum, and Denny Nakutis. The two heats saw Wayne Tessean and J.E. Stalder pick up victories.
The Sunoco Race Fuels Pure Stocks was a wild race that saw last week’s winner McKees Rocks PA’s Jake Simmons charge thru the field from 12th to pick up his third win of 2007. Nick Kocuba grabbed the lead at the start and led the first two laps. Joe Anthony used a high outside “rim riding” lane to charge from 9th to take the lead on lap three. For the next several laps Anthony was looking like he was going to win, but Simmons had other ideas. On lap 7 Simmons moved into second and set after Anthony. When Simmons caught Anthony a side-by-side battle for the lead ensued that almost went on the entire race. Simmons finally forged ahead on 14 and on the last lap, Bill Robertson, who was in his own back and forth battle with Stacie White for third during the latter stages, got by Anthony for second. At the finish it was Simmons, Robertson, Anthony, White, Bob Schwartzmiller, A.J. Poljak, Kocuba, Robert Betz, Jeff Broniszewski, (in the Shawn Bryan #4), and Dave Slade. The heats fell to Joe Anthony and Bill Robertson.
The Old Allegany Shoppe Amateur Stocks saw a new winner, as newcomer Curt Bish from Oakdale PA took the win. Bill Tennant grabbed the early lead, and led the first four laps with Bish right behind in second. Bish too over on lap five, while five time and last week’s winner Davy Lee moved into the second spot on lap 8. Lee ran side by side with Bish for several laps, but Bish held him off to take the win. It also marked the first time Lee was beat in a feature he finished this season. Lee was second, with Eric Goldberg in third followed by Terry Kerr, Tony White, Jarrod Weiland, Jason Herniak, Derek Stefanick, Bill Tennant, and John Hatlas. Davy Lee won the heat.
Dormont PA’s Dusty Curry grabbed another win in the Imperial Heights Garage Young Gun main. Curry started fourth and grabbed the lead on the first lap and never looked back. Michael Reft came in second with Rich Mason in third, followed by Devin Tomei, Tyler Fox, Alec Broniszewski, Todd Janus, and newcomer Sean Graham to round out the field.
