Jared Miley, Charlier, Anthony, Mike Basich, White and Curry win at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway on Saturday night July 21 2007
PITTSBURGH, PA (July 21) - Jared Miley, South Park, PA grabbed his second Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Late Models of the season tonight. Mike Johnson grabbed the lead at the outset, with Steve Baker right behind. Baker battled with Johnson then Miley joined the fray two laps later. The trio put on a wild battle for first with Miley gaining the upper hand on lap 7. Baker did a half spin on lap 9 allowing Lynn Geisler to move into third. Baker then slowed bringing out the caution. He went pit side and changed a tire and rejoined the field. Miley resumed the lead and cruised to the win. Geisler moved by Johnson on lap 13, meanwhile Baker put on a wild charge from the tail to move into third by lap 13 and set sail after Geisler. But he ran out of time. At the finish it was Miley, Geisler, Baker, Ben Miley (in his best run of the season), Keith Barbara (in the Koteles #64), Mike Davis, Johnson, Tom Beck, Pete Rech and Brandon Wearing. Jared Miley grabbed the first Late Model heat while Mike Davis took the second. Last week’s winner Al Atallah was not in attendance.
In the Brougher’s Machine Shop Crate Late Models, Midway PA’s Daryl Charlier grabbed his 4th win of the season. A power outage just before the start of the main caused an hour delay. Once the race got started it became a survival of the fittest. On the start Charlier grabbed the lead, with Laura Lukon and Josh Holtgraver following. Lukon and Holtgraver tangled going into three, and locked together and stacked up the field behind, collecting Rocky Kugel, Jason Rider, Scott Schempp and Brad Westover. Only Rider and Schempp were able to continue. On the restart Charlier grabbed the lead again with Leo Stadelman in close pursuit. Stadelman made a few tries for the lead, but was unsuccessful. The caution came out again on lap 4 when point leader Kyle Lukon crashed into the back straight inside guardrail. He was uninjured, but finished for the night. Charlier grabbed the lead again, now being chased by Jim Kutas. Kutas passed Charlier on lap 7, only to have Charlier pass him back on lap 8. Meanwhile, Jason Rider moved thru the field and was also challenging for the top spot. Several cautions for minor spins kept the field tight. On a lap17 Kutas got a run on the outside and passed Charlier, but Charlier regained the lead on lap 19 and held on for the win. Rider ended up second, followed by Kutas, Steve Beatty, Stadelman, last week’s winner Russ Kolesar, Bryant Hank, Scott Schempp, Mark Moats Jr. and Cory Behanna. The two heats saw Leo Stadelman and Kyle Lukon take wins.
Joe Anthony Baldwin PA grabbed his 4th win of 2007 in the Sunoco Race Fuels Pure Stocks. The 11th starting Anthony grabbed the lead off Bob Schwartzmiller on the third lap, using an inside line instead of his usual high line. Anthony had to then hold off the consistent charges of Nick Kocuba. Kocuba and Anthony were side by side for a good portion of the event, but Kocuba fell short at the end. Stacie White was third, in the caution free event, followed by last week’s winner Jake Simmons, A.J. Poljak, Bill Robertson, Schwartzmiller, Aaron Jones, Mitch Wattelet, and Dave Slade. The heats fell to A.J. Poljak and Stacie White.
In the Miley Truck Rental E-Mods, Mike Basich Adena, OH kept out of trouble and picked up his third win of the season in a race that saw seven lead changes by three different drivers. Chris Basich grabbed the lead at the start and led the first three laps. J.E. Stalder came from 7th to take over on lap 4 and led the next two laps. Chris Basich regained the lead on lap 6 and led thru lap 7. Stalder was back ahead on lap 8, Mike Basich, who moved into third on lap 5, and moved into the lead on lap 11. Stalder tagged the wall on lap 11, and got a flat, but was able to change the tire and rejoin the field. Basich led lap 12, when his brother Chris who was running second tagged the inside guardrail coming off turn four, and was done for the night. Mike Basich was able to hold onto the lead for the next few laps and pick up the win. Wayne Tessean ended up second with Stalder coming thru the field in the closing laps to end up third. Chuck Kennedy was fourth, followed by Kevin Miller, J.J. Bametzrieder, Kari Gasser, Tom Martineck, Chris Basich and Clayton Kennedy. Chuck Kennedy grabbed a heat victory as did Mike Basich.
Tony White Moon Twp. PA grabbed his first ever Old Allegheny Shoppe Amateur Stock feature win. White took the lead and weathered a couple early restarts to win by a straight a way over point leader and the class’s top winner Davy Lee. Jason Herniak had a strong run to finish third with former track champ Robby Torrens making his first start of the season finished fourth followed by Terry Kerr in fifth. Rounding out the top ten finishers were Ian Tomei (making his first start of the year), Rob Ward, Curt Bish, Ray Prolenski, and Jarrod Weiland. Eric Goldberg and Ian Tomei grabbed the two heat wins.
In the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns feature, Dusty Curry Dormont, PA grabbed his 9th win of the season. Sean Graham led the first three laps before Curry took over on lap four, Mike Reft moved into second and chased Curry but to no avail. Graham had his best run so far to finish third, followed by Devin Tomei, Todd Janus, Tyler Fox, and Rich Mason.
