IMPERIAL, PA .Davey Johnson of Greensburg bested a star studded field to notch his third Late Model feature this season at Pittsburghs Pennsylvania Motor Speedway Saturday night. Pittsburghs Dave Wade claimed the Zoresco Limited Late Model "Jook George Memorial Fall Classic 40" for the second year in a row. Wayne Tessean of Austintown, OH in the M. Stahl Modifieds and Len Dobrosielski of Kennedy Township in the Spectator Stocks both made it two wins in a row.
Thirty cars took the green flag at the start of the Late Model 25 lap feature with Rick Dawson jumping into the lead. The Austintown, OH driver quickly built a comfortable lead while some amazing battles ensued throughout the field. Mark Banal, Steve Baker and Davey Johnson sliced and diced behind Dawson with Johnson taking second on lap five after Baker and Banal connected on the front stretch. Lap after lap Johnson closed on Dawson who entered thick traffic near the midway point. Finally on lap fifteen, Johnson used lapped traffic to his advantage and overhauled Dawson for the lead. Once in front, Johnson used his experience to record his 32nd career Late Model win at Dirts Monster Half Mile. Dawson was a close second, Chub Frank third, Tim Hitt fourth and Lou Bradich fifth. Lynn Geisler, B.A. Malcuit, Baker, Banal and Mike Johnson completed the top ten. John Flinner, Malcuit and D. Johnson won the heat races, and Bob Moskey claimed the B-Main. Monarch Oil/Wolfs Head Hard Charger honors went to Ben Miley.
Dave Wade started the night by setting fast time for the Zoresco Limited Late Model special event, and never slowed down. After taking the lead from Mike Cecere on lap two, Wade held off the mid-race challenges of Alex Ferree and cruised to his victory in the "Jook George Memorial Fall Classic 40". Ferree, Travis Geisler, Cecere and Chris Angelicchio completed the top five. Six through ten were: Mark Moats, Jim Stephans, Duane Popham, Kirk Young and Pete Loria. Cecere won the fast dash. Young and Popham were the heat race winners. Angelicchio was the Monarch Oil/Wolfs Head Hard Charger.
Points leader Wayne Tessean was dominant as he came from twelfth to win the M. Stahl Modified 15 lap feature going away. Logan Dernoshek was second, Larry Kugel third, John Myrgo fourth and Russ Matejka fifth. Jeff Haefke, Stush Sadowski, Bruce Dreistadt, Jim Petrelle and Bootie Petsko rounded out the top ten. Dernoshek and Monarch Oil/Wolfs Head Hard Charger Tessean won the preliminaries.
Its hard to describe the great wheel to wheel racing the Spectator Stocks put on at PPMS. Another barn burner Saturday saw Len Dobrosielski edge Ralph Hysong Jr. and Frankie Schneider for his fifth win of the season. Early race leader Neal Isminger was fourth and Dave Beck fifth. Al Atallah was sixth, Charlie DiLoreto seventh, Rick Heim eighth, Stacie White ninth and Rick Apolito tenth. Hysong and Dobrosielski won the heats, and Dobrosielski was also the Monarch Oil/Wolfs Head Hard Charger.
This Saturday, September 5th, regular racing continues for the Late Models, Zoresco Limited Late Models, M. Stahl Modifieds and Spectator Stocks. In addition, the Pittsburgh Circle Track Club Advantra Senior Series will run the Glade Neil Memorial. A long time supporter and competitor in the Senior Series, Neil passed away last winter.
Gates open at 5pm with racing at 7pm. For more information call (412) 279-RACE or visit our home page on the Internet at www.ppms.com..
