PPMS Regular Season Ends, Champions Declared While Miley, Angelicchio, Rider, Bametzrieder, Dreistadt, Simmons, Bish and Reft Score Big Wins.

PITTSBURGH, PA (September 15, 2007) - South Park PA’s Jared Miley grabbed his fifth win of 2007 in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Late Models. Tommy Beck grabbed the lead at the out set, with Scott Gunn in second and Brandon Burgoon in third. Burgoon moved into second on lap two. Third running Gunn slowed on lap three with a flat, bringing out the first yellow. On the restart, Beck was still the leader followed by Burgoon and with Lynn Geisler now moving into third. Geisler started to battle with Burgoon, while Beck set the pace. Geisler moved into second on lap 5 and was looking for the leader when he spun, bringing out the races second yellow. On the restart Jim Lepro spun, collecting Pete Rech and Dennis Neiderriter. All three were able to continue. After a couple false starts the race got going again, with Burgoon getting by Beck. The following lap, Lynn Geisler tangled with Steve Baker, and Geisler ended up in the turn two wall hard. He was done of the night. Baker changed a flat tire and was able to return. Burgoon continued to lead on the restart. On lap 8 Jared Miley moved into second and began to chase Burgoon. On lap 17 Miley got by Burgoon, and at that point the race was over. Miley was able to lead the remaining laps to pick up the win.  Miley had also wrapped up the 2007 track championship. At the finish it was Miley, Burgoon, Dave Wade, Mike Johnson, Al Atallah, Beck, D.J. Miller, Ben Miley, John Mollick, and John Mason. Twenty cars were on hand, with the heats going to Al Atallah and Lynn Geisler. John Mason made his first start of the season, while Greg Satterlee made his first start ever.

Two features were held in the Brougher’s Speed Shop Crate Lates with Clinton PA’s Jason Rider taking the first and Greensburg, PA’s Dan Angelicchio winning his career first in the second. The first feature was the rainout from August 25. Scott Schemp led the first lap, and was replaced by Russ Kolesar on lap two. Kolesar led until he developed a flat on lap 5 and spun out, bringing out a caution. Daryl Charlier took over at this point, with Dan Angelicchio in second and Rider in third. The next yellow came out on lap 7, when fourth running Kyle Lukon spun. On the restart Rider got by Angelicchio for second. Charlier continued to lead until lap 10 when Rider took over. Rider led until lap 17, when Rocky Kugel crashed in turn four. On the restart Rider led the last three laps to pick up his third win of the season. Charlier was second followed closely by Dan Angelicchio, Mark Moats Jr., Kyle Lukon, Schempp, Laura Lukon, Bryan Hoffman, Kugel, and Kolesar. In the second feature Josh Holtgraver grabbed the lead at the start and led the first 7 laps. Russ Kolesar took over on lap 8. Kolesar led until lap 17, when Angelicchio took over. Angelicchio led the final four laps to pick up the win in impressive style. Kolesar settled for second, while 2007-point champion Kyle Lukon rallied in the late stages to end up third. Mark Moats Jr. had his best night of the season with another strong fourth followed by Rocky Kugel who rebounded from his hard crash in the first go. Leo Stadelman was sixth, with Steve Beatty in seventh followed by Jim Kutas, Neal Isiminger (in Laura Lukon’s #84), and Brad Westover.  Eighteen cars were on hand. Jason Rider and Jim Kutas won the heats. Tom Copeman and Louie Bradich made their first starts. Bradich’s first start was memorable, as he was leading his heat, when he tagged the front straight wall and flipped his #09, and slid down the track several yards on his roof. He was uninjured.

Two features also were run in the Miley Truck Rental E-Mods. In the make up race, J.J. Bametzrieder McMurray, PA took his career first win. Vince Laboon grabbed the lead at the start of the main. Laboon led the first 9 laps, and was looking like he might be headed for his first career win. A yellow on that lap changed all that. On the restart second running Chris Basich took the lead from Laboon. As the pair was completing that lap, they got together on the front straight and caused a six-car pileup. Everyone was able to continue. On the restart Kari Gasser, Kevin Miller and Laboon tangled on the back straight ending Laboon’s night. Tom Martineck was now the leader and led until the last lap when Bametzrieder got by coming off turn four to pick up the win. Martineck was second followed by Chuck Kennedy, Chris Basich, Mike Basich, Jim Plance, Kevin Miller, Wayne Tessean, Clayton Kennedy, and Kari Gasser. In the second main, West Mifflin PA’s Bruce Dreistadt started on the outside front row, and grabbed the lead at the outset and romped to his career first win. Mike Basich ran second for most of the event with brother Chris right behind in third, followed by Kevin Miller, Wayne Tessean, Bametzrieder, Chuck Kennedy, Stush Sadowski, Clayton Kennedy, and Jim Plance. Wayne Tessean and Mike Basich won the heats.

McKees Rocks PA’s Jake Simmons returned to victory lane in the Sunoco Race Fuels Pure Stocks. Simmons grabbed the lead on lap two off Stacie White and never looked back to pick up his 7th win of the season. Bill Robertson moved by White on lap 7 to finish a solid second followed by Charlie DiLoretto, White, Bob Schwartzmiller, 2007 point champ Joe Anthony, Nick Kocuba, Bob Betz, Don Bauerle, and Mike Mohn. Stacie White won the heat.

Curt Bish Oakdale, PA grabbed his 3rd win of the season in the Old Allegheny Shoppe Amateur Stocks special.  Bish led the first two laps, and then Eric Goldberg took over. Goldberg led the next eight laps with Bish right behind. On lap 11 Bish passed Goldberg to lead that lap, then Goldberg came back, then coming for the checker, Bish got by again to pick up the win. Goldberg ended up second with 2007-point champ Davy Lee third. Tony White was fourth followed by Craig Koteles, Bill Tennant, Darren Ferguson, Derek Stefanick, Brian Huchko, and Rob Ward. Davy Lee and Eric Goldberg won the heats.

Mike Reft Whitehall, PA took his third win in a row and fourth of the season to grab the 2007 point championship in the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns. Reft made a three wide move on lap 7 to take the lead and pick up the win. Rich Mason was second followed by Todd Janus, Sean Graham, Dusty Curry, Alec Broniszewski, Brian Beyerbach, Tyler Fox and Tyler Atkinson.
