IMPERIAL, PA. . . The S.T.A.R.S. by Arizona Late Model Series returns to
Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway Saturday, July 6th, for the third annual Penn
National 100, paying $10,000 to win.
This years event will have a new twist. At the halfivay point, the cars will be allowed to enter the pits, and the race teams will have twenty minutes to make any changes to the cars before the race resumes.
Gary Stuhler of Greencastele, PA won the first Penn National 100 in 1994. Last year, Jack Boggs of Grayson, KY claimed the top prize. Steve Francis of Ashland, KY is currently leading the S.T.A.R.S. point standings, and collected his first win at Dirt's Monster Half Mile earlier this season when the S.T.A.R.S. made their first '96 appearance. They and many others including Dresden, OH's Donnie Moran, recent winner of the Dream at Eldora, are expected to be on hand along with the strong field of weekly PPMS Late Model competitors. Moran has the most carreer S.T.A.R.S. wins at PPMS.
Along with the S.T.A.R.S. Late models, the M. Stahl Limited Late Models, York UMP Modifieds, and Spectator Stocks will run feature events only. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., and grandstand gates at 4.30 p.m. Late Model time trials will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The rain date for th Penn National 100 is Sunday, July 7th.
