PPMS to Honor Excellence at World of Wheels
Pittsburgh, PA — January 8, 2025
Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway (PPMS) is proud to announce its role as one of three sponsors of the Steel City Award of Excellence at the 64th Annual Fuel Required World of Wheels Presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts, taking place January 24–26, 2025, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh.
This distinguished award celebrates automotive excellence, recognizing outstanding craftsmanship, innovation, and design. A highlight of the World of Wheels, the Steel City Award of Excellence attracts top-tier vehicles and builders, offering a $7,500 prize to the winner.
Each year, six exceptional vehicles are named the "Steel City Six," representing the pinnacle of automotive artistry. From this elite group, one will take home the Steel City Award of Excellence. At last year’s event, Luigi Deriggi captured the title with his beautifully restored 1950 Mercury 2-Door, setting a benchmark of excellence for this year’s competitors.
PPMS will feature an engaging display at this year’s World of Wheels, showcasing nine race cars from six different divisions of racing. Visitors can stop by the PPMS booth to relive season highlights, meet and greet some of the speedway’s top drivers, and even sit in the seat of a car with permission from the driver's. For an added thrill, Maverick Simulations will have a state-of-the-art racing simulator on-site all weekend, offering attendees a chance to experience the thrill of the track firsthand.

The World of Wheels is a beloved tradition in Pittsburgh, now in its 64th year. Featuring an impressive array of hot rods, classics, customs, and motorcycles, the event welcomes automotive enthusiasts of all ages to explore, admire, and celebrate the culture of cars.
