Wheel-to-Wheel Action: Moran, Davenport, Ferguson, and Blair Highlight Pittsburgher Weekend (Full Write Up Results)

The 37th Annual Pittsburgher weekend is in the books, blessed with picture-perfect weather and nonstop, wheel-to-wheel action. Fans at PPMS saw it all: qualifying, 19 heat races, nine B-Mains, two dashes, and seven feature events across two thrilling nights.

Friday night belonged to Devin Moran (99) of Dresden, Ohio, who claimed the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series feature, while Carson Ferguson (1F) of Lincolnton, North Carolina, took night one of the Bill Hendren Memorial for the RUSH Late Model Dirt Series. Bill Holmes (8) of East Concord, New York, grabbed the DV Jewelers RUSH Non-Qualifiers win, and Chris Schneider (56) of Lower Burrell made it four straight with another victory in the 4th Annual Bob Walters Memorial for the Penn Ohio Pro Stocks.

Saturday, Jonathan Davenport (49) of Blairsville, Georgia, dominated all 70 laps to score back-to-back Pittsburgher victories. Max Blair (114) of Centerville captured night two of the Bill Hendren Memorial for the RUSH Late Model Touring Series, while Logan Zarin (33X) of Hookstown closed out the weekend with a win in the DV Jewelers RUSH Non-Qualifiers feature.

On Friday…

Devin Moran (99) started on the pole for the 30-lap Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series feature with Brandon Sheppard (1) to his outside. Garrett Alberson (58) and Ricky Thornton Jr. (20RT) made up row two.

Moran grabbed the early lead as Sheppard settled into second and Thornton Jr. into third. By lap five, Thornton Jr. surged to the front and began pulling away, only to suffer heartbreak on lap 14 when a right rear flat brought out the caution and handed the lead back to Moran.

Moran controlled the restart and held strong through the final caution with ten laps remaining for Joseph Joiner (19M). From there, Moran never looked back, leading the rest of the way to bank the $10,000 Pittsburgher night one victory.

Sheppard finished second, Max Blair (111) charged to third, Alberson came home fourth, and Jonathan Davenport (49) rounded out the top five. Heat race winners were Moran, Alberson, Sheppard, and Thornton Jr., while Mason Zeigler (25Z) and Dan Ebert (60) took the B-Mains.

Carson Ferguson (1F) started on the pole for night one of the 30-lap Bill Hendren Memorial with Mason Zeigler (25Z) to his outside, while Max Blair (114) and Brandon Burgoon (5X) filled row two. Ferguson and Zeigler battled side by side until lap two, when Zeigler powered ahead and controlled the race through lap 26.

A late caution stacked the field, giving Ferguson another shot at the lead. On the restart he surged past Zeigler, and despite two more yellows, Ferguson held firm to capture the night one victory.

Christian Schneider (56) crossed in second, Zeigler settled for third, Daryl Charlier (42) took fourth, and Blair rounded out the top five. Heat race wins went to Blair, Demetrios Drellos (111D), Tim Shaffer (45), Ferguson, Burgoon, and Zeigler, with B-Main victories going to Zach Gunn (17G), Ben Easler (02), and Dillon Brown (6); Ferguson also won the dash.

Mike Wonderling (18) started on the pole for the 10-lap RUSH Non-Qualifiers feature with Bill Holmes (8) to his outside. Holmes jumped to the early lead, but a lap one caution slowed the pace and reset the field.

Choosing the outside for the restart, Holmes held strong and never looked back. He led every remaining lap to secure the win, followed by Logan Zarin (33X) in second, Jake Gunn (14G) in third, Jacob Billyk (71) in fourth, and Steve Baldwin (5B) in fifth.

The 4th Annual Bob Walters Memorial for the Penn Ohio Pro Stocks rolled off with Chris Schneider (56) on the pole and Jackson Humanic (17) to his outside. Row two had Jacob Dietz (27) and Jason Fosnaught (19), all gunning for the crown.

Once the green flag dropped, Schneider (56) wasted no time seizing the lead, with Dietz (27) sliding into second. From there, it was pure domination. Schneider clicked off every lap out front, going green to checkers for his fourth straight Bob Walters Memorial victory. A streak that cements his reign as the driver to beat in this race. Dietz settled for second, Humanic third, Tim Bish (11B) fourth, and Fosnaught fifth. Heat race wins went to Schneider and Humanic.

On Saturday night…

The 70-lap Pittsburgher for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series lined up with Brandon Sheppard (1) on the pole and Devin Moran (99) to his outside, while Jonathan Davenport (49) and Garrett Alberson (58) made up row two. When the green dropped, Davenport (49) wasted no time, storming to the front before the field could settle in.

The first caution flew on lap nine for Gregg Satterlee (22), but Davenport (49) didn’t blink on the restart. He held command with Ricky Thornton Jr (20RT) in second and Moran (99) in third. The laps ticked away and Davenport built a massive 5.2-second advantage, leaving the field chasing shadows.

A late caution with 12 to go briefly restacked the pack, yet Davenport was untouchable. Even with one final yellow, he never wavered, leading flag-to-flag to secure his second straight Pittsburgher victory. Max Blair (111) finished runner-up, Moran third, Thornton Jr fourth, and Sheppard fifth. Heat race wins went to Sheppard, Davenport, Moran, and Alberson, while Clay Harris (6) and Donald McIntosh (79) claimed the B-mains.

The 40-lap Bill Hendren Memorial finale lined up with Max Blair (114) on the pole and Carson Ferguson (F1) to his outside, while Ben Easler (02) and Nico Dabecco (N1) filled out row two. Blair (114) grabbed the early jump, but a restart opened the door for Ferguson (F1) to power around the outside and take command.

Back-to-back cautions on laps six and seven slowed the action, yet Ferguson held firm on each restart, setting the pace until Blair came charging back. On lap 18, Blair ducked low out of turn two and retook the lead, pulling the crowd to its feet.

The final caution on lap 34 gave Ferguson one last shot, but Blair slammed the door shut, holding strong on the bottom to win night two of the Bill Hendren Memorial for the RUSH Touring Series. Ferguson crossed second, Easler finished third, Mason Zeigler (25Z) fourth, and Christian Schneider (56) rounded out the top five. Heat wins went to Ferguson, Easler, Zeigler, and Blair, while Devin Brannon (137) and Daryl Charlier (42) grabbed the B-mains. Blair capped his night by winning the dash as well.

The DV Jewelers RUSH Non-Qualifiers feature rolled off with Mike Wonderling (18) on the pole and Logan Zarin (33X) to his outside. When the green flag waved, Zarin wasted no time, jumping out front and setting the tone.

From there it was all Zarin, clicking off smooth laps as the race went green to checkers without a hitch. He led all 10 circuits to score the win, followed by Anthony Monteparte (66) in second, Wonderling in third, Jacob Whitt (33W) in fourth, and Jacob Billyk Jr. (4JR) rounding out the top five.

Thank you for an incredible season at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. We’ll see you back at the track for our Halloween Party on October 19.
