April Rains Nab Another PPMS Season Opener
IMPERIAL, Pa. — Persistent April rains have once again disrupted the start of the racing season at Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, forcing the cancelation of today’s scheduled season opener.
Track officials made the decision with continued wet conditions and an unfavorable forecast in mind, prioritizing both the racing surface and the experience for teams and fans. The repeated impact of early-season weather has become an all-too-familiar challenge, delaying the long-awaited return to Dirt’s Monster Half Mile.
“With the way this spring has gone, it’s frustrating for everyone involved,” said operations manager Tyler Harris. “But we’re not going to force it and put on something that doesn’t represent what our fans and racers expect. We’ll wait until we can do it right.”
The 2026 season opener will now shift to Saturday, May 2nd, as Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway hosts Cinco de Mayo Fiesta Night, featuring the BRP Modified Tour. This appearance by the Big Block Modifieds marks their first visit to PPMS in nearly a decade. The event will also include a full program of racing and officially kick off the speedway’s 48th season. The Kehm Oil Pro Stocks will be off for the evening, while the Crown Vics return for their second of four scheduled appearances this season.
Fans are encouraged to stay tuned to PPMS social media channels and ppms.com for additional updates and event information as the season approaches.
