Cold Weather Cancels Season Opener; She’s In Free Event Up Next
IMPERIAL, PA — Persistent early-season cold has forced Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway to cancel this weekend’s Cinco De Mayo Fiesta event, delaying the official start of the 2026 racing season at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile. The BRP Modified Tour will now shift to its June 20 rain date, which will also feature the inaugural Don Gamble Silver Cup with Vintage Modified and Late Model racing.
With track and ambient temperatures struggling to reach acceptable levels, speedway officials made the decision in the best interest of competitors, teams, and fans.
“We considered every option available to us that could help us get this show in,” said Operations Manager Tyler Harris. “That included adjusting the format, simplifying the program, and moving start times up. But at a certain point, pushing forward becomes more about us than the people who support the facility. When conditions start to put equipment at risk and take away from the fan experience, moving forward just isn’t the right call.”
The cancelation now shifts focus to one of the most anticipated and meaningful events on the 2026 schedule, She’s In Free Night, featuring the return of the RUSH Sprint Car Series.
She’s In Free Night highlights the speedway’s continued effort to make race night more accessible while creating a welcoming environment for new fans. All female fans will receive free grandstand admission, setting the stage for a high-energy night that blends competition with community.
A full program of racing is planned, featuring the first of five appearances this season for the RUSH Sprint Car Series. Joining them will be the Rohrich Parts Center & Chevrolet Performance RUSH Late Models, Kehm Oil Pro Stocks, The Auto House Hobby Stocks, and the Young Guns. The Crawford Auto Repair Four Cylinders will have the weekend off.
Fans are encouraged to take advantage of the promotion, bring friends and family, and experience a night at the races that goes beyond the track. From the sound of engines firing under the lights to the atmosphere that builds with every lap, She’s In Free Night offers a different kind of energy at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile.
